I'm basically a tax geek! Prior to starting my own firm, I was Director of Tax Services for Ernst & Young in Reno. I also practiced in both the Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon offices of Ernst & Young's predecessor firm Arthur Young & Co. I was also a partner in a CPA firm in Bend, Oregon for several years; and was a faculty member at Portland State University teaching accounting and tax classes for two years. I hold a B.S. degree in accounting from California State University-Chico.
My areas of specialization include, if it is possible to specialize with this crazy tax code: corporation, S corporation, LLC, partnership, trust and individual taxation. I also have a great deal of experience with private charitable foundations and related charitable gifting strategies.
I have been lucky to work with many wealthy clients which enabled me to grow professionally. My professional growth has also benefited from many wonderful mentors throughout my career. Among clients I have worked with are Cary Grant, actor, many successful entrepreneurial individuals, several professional athletes; and, numerous large multi-national companies.
I am a member of the Nevada Society of CPAs, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the AICPA’s Tax and Private Companies Practice Sections. For many years I was a national instructor of advanced tax topics which I have had to discontinue as our practice grew.
We have the best clients in the world and appreciate so much the opportunity to serve them. When I was growing up I would often accompany my dad to client meetings. He was a salesman and he impressed me with how he focused on what was happening in his customer's life . . . what their needs were . . . how their families were doing . . . and we try to do the same for our clients.
THE BOTTOM LINE is that I love our clients, the ever changing tax landscape and its implications for planning and the opportunity to assist our clients with their broader based financial and management issues.
Doug and Theresa in the Park Blocks at Portland State University.
This is where Doug and Theresa first met. Doug was teaching
accounting at PSU and Theresa was a student there.
Hey, no hanky panky, Theresa was not a student in Doug's classes.
One day Doug went to get a cup of coffee at the student union. Theresa was involved in the spirited discussion on the strengths of various Christian based sects at the nearest table.
Theresa was the only Catholic in the group and she was getting pummeled. Doug, also a Catholic and a Youth Minister for a parish (St. Ignatius) in Portland was sitting at the next table.
He finally could not resist jumping into the battle (his client's know the urge) and the rest is history!!
After 29 years I am blessed to have married UP!
PS - Ask any client and they will tell you Theresa is the VIP of this business . . . they merely put up with me.
